History of Taj Mahal
With the tragic end of Mumtaz Mahal began the beautiful architectural history of India. With the last wish of Mumtaz Mahal, Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned this magnificent tomb after her death in 1631 after giving birth to their 14th child. Two tombs lie below the Taj Mahal that of the emperor and his wife. Shah Jahan died in the year 1666 AD and was laid to rest here. Mumtaz Mahal died at the age of 39. The inconsolable emperor mourned her death for two long years.

Construction of Taj Mahal

The tomb was also visible from Shah Jahans private palace of Agra Fort. Agra Fort was also the place where he remained fortified by his son until his death.

The history of Taj Mahal Agra depicts that the grand mausoleum took 22 years to be completed and a minute shot to fame. Shah Jahan ordered for a work force of 20,000 workers and architects. The chief architect was Mohammed Hanif and Ustad Isa, a Persian. There were also other stonecutters, marble cutters, and carvers coming across from other parts of India and Persia. The inlay specialist was brought from Delhi. Corals came from Arabia and garnets from the Bundlekhand region. The resting place of Mumtaz Mahal was adorned with precious stones to crown the queen of the palace.

The cost of making this monument amounted to 32 million to the Mughal treasury. An epitome of love and respect, Taj Mahal is the standing example of what your eyes could behold.
